At Columbia Cottage in Hartselle, the cost of care starts at $3,260. This rate is paired with a customized personal care plan called CareSteps.

Unique activities are available in each Cottage community and are scheduled by our staff based on the interests of our residents. Calendars are carefully planned to ensure that residents and their families have an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that support their mind, body, and spirit. Residents have numerous opportunities that support an active and healthy lifestyle.

Susan Abercrombie, LPN, has over 35 years of nursing experience caring for seniors in assisted living and doctors’ offices. She is currently the Senior Managing Director at Country Cottage in Decatur & Columbia Cottage in Hartselle.
Before joining us at the Cottage, she worked as an office manager and nurse for a local physician. She also has experience in assisted living facilities and greatly enjoys working with seniors. “They have so much to offer us, and it’s my goal to help them with whatever needs they have. I try to give them 100% all the time,” she says.
Kelly stepped into the Admissions Coordinator role after spending a year at the Cottage as a Homemaker. “I enjoy working at the Cottage Because I love taking care of others,” Kelly says.
Before joining the Cottage team, she worked as a teacher and Assistant Director with La Petite Academy. Kelly enjoys watching movies and spending time with her family. She has two children, Abbie and Brayden, with her husband Tyler.
Dana, originally from Decatur, came to the Cottage with years of experience caring for seniors in both a home and community setting. Having spent 3 years working at the Cottage before being promoted to Resident Services Director, Dana has a deep knowledge of the community and residents which serves her well in this position.
“Earlier in my career I worked in other industries. When I took my first job in senior housing, I fell in love with the residents. That’s when this new part of my life began.” In her free time, Dana enjoys spending time with her family and watching football.
Selena is from Russellville, Alabama and first joined the Cottages in 1998 as the Resident Services Director for our Country Cottage in Russellville. Since that time she has been a member of the Cottage team in various positions, including Managing Director for several of our locations. Selena has been a nurse for 25 years, and has enjoyed 22 years caring for the elderly.
“The reason I love caring for the elderly is because of my many wonderful grandparents who played such an important role in my life,” says Selena.
